Since 2016, Paris Region has undergone a major transformation of its transportation network, a large-scale revolution reshaping daily commutes and preparing for the future. With a massive €73 billion investment, the Region is doubling the size of its network by 2030, ensuring easier access for residents and visitors to the metropolis' strategic hubs.

A Monumental Project at the Heart of Europe

This is Europe’s largest urban and transportation project, with the creation of over of new lines and 139 new stations. This development plan includes the construction of four new metro lines (15, 16, 17, and 18) as part of the Grand Paris Express. It connects several towns within Paris Region without requiring transit through Paris, while also offering quicker access to the city center.

These infrastructures will soon connect neighborhoods, employment hubs, leisure areas, airports, and international train stations in unprecedented ways, enabling fluid mobility from local to international destinations.

Completed Extensions: A Preview of What’s to Come

The 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games offered travelers a glimpse of the benefits brought by these investments:

• Line 14 now extends to Orly Airport, connecting Châtelet in just 25 minutes, with Saint-Denis Pleyel emerging as a major northern hub.
• La Line E now reaches Nanterre, bringing La Défense within 11 minutes of Gare du Nord.
• Line 11, extended to Rosny-Bois-Perrier, has cut travel time to central Paris by more than half, from 55 minutes to 24 minutes.

These innovations are supported by introducing 1,200 new or refurbished trains, metros, and RER cars, guaranteeing enhanced travel comfort.

A More Connected Future

In just a few years, these infrastructures will continue to bridge territories and speed up travel:

• The CDG Express will connect Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport to central Paris (Gare de l’Est) in only 20 minutes by 2027.
• Line 18 will link Orly Airport to the Plateau de Saclay, a major research hub, in only 20 minutes by 2027 and to Versailles by 2030.
• La Line 15, a strategic orbital line, will connect Champigny Centre to Issy RER without passing through Paris, reducing travel time by an hour.
